we’re here!

july31 - 5

We’re here! And there’s a big, lovely tree in this front yard, too.

july31 - 2

I put down Boh’s favorite rug (which was on the lake house porch), and he immediately claimed a spot at the door.

july31 - 4

He mostly stayed on my bed during my early unpacking, but as soon as I was able to acquire a new-to-us couch, he settled right in.

july31 - 1

I am in love with the main room of this house — a big open space for living and dining and working. After five days of cleaning and unpacking, this room is starting to look like home. (Special thanks to my mom — she’s been here with me, and it wouldn’t look even half this good without her help!)

july31 - 3

Had my first bowl of yogurt and granola–with peaches!–in the new house. Happy colors, happy dog, happy rooster.

saying goodbye.

july19 - 5

A lovely lake sunset, from sometime last week. (After a good swim with a friend.)

july19 - 4

Lounging on the Arts Quad, maybe for the last time.

july19 - 7

A happy dog, on the couch we’re giving away.

july19 - 6

A downy woodpecker — the one I like to think keeps coming back to the black walnut tree in my front yard, and sometimes taps on my porch windows. I stood under this tree and watched her for a solid 20 minutes yesterday morning. This sweet bird (and so many others) have kept me company here. (The yard was filled with birds yesterday–it’s like they knew that I’d packed my binoculars and bird books the night before.)

And this morning I took my mug of coffee down to the end of the dock.

july19 - 2

I watched sailboats and swallows, and appreciated the morning calm.

july19 - 3

This is the week that I say goodbye. And I’m excited about the next thing–a new home, new town, new job. But this place has been kind to me these last seven years, and I think it will be hard to leave. (Finishing up my summer grading this week, packing up the house, and driving south to my new home next weekend. Stay tuned!)

and it’s july.

I always forget how intense summer session courses can be. Three weeks of daily discussion sections have gone by in a flash, and it’s July. Yesterday I took my first swim in the lake. And Boh and I have two more weeks here in the lake house, and in our sweet small town, before we move on to our next adventure. Here are a few snippets from the last few weeks:

july11 - 1

A porch pancake breakfast with friends who came to visit for the holiday weekend.

july11 - 2

We had a dinner party! And a galette! (Tomato, corn, zucchini, scallions, and parmesan.)

july11 - 3

Dick: The Game. (A Moby-Dick themed version of Cards Against Humanity. Yes, we are nerds, and proud of it.)

july11 - 4

This face.

july11 - 5

These falls.

july11 - 6

These flowers, in between where I park my car and where our summer course was held. I’d turn the corner each morning and just breathe them in.

july11 - 7

Packing. I started with the knitting books — I didn’t realize I have so many! The box pile is slowly growing, and the movers will be here in just under two weeks…
