pearl and the beard (and a giveaway!).

Yep, that’s a three-person sweater. And here it is on three people:

Amazing, right?

Yesterday I got an email asking if I’d be interested in sharing a bit about Pearl and the Beard on my blog. I get emails asking me to do this from time to time, and I usually ignore them. But I just had to learn more about this sweater, and I’m so glad I took the time to check out their music! It turns out that this band has exactly the kind of sound that is perfect for a summer Friday — I could describe them (and if I did, I’d say something like americana meets indie rock, or bowerbirds meets The Head and the Heart), but really, you should just give them a listen:

Here’s a link to a track from their new album:

And here’s a YouTube video that gives you a sense for how the cello, guitar, and percussion interact with three absolutely lovely voices:
More perusing of the band’s site revealed that not only do I like their sound; I like their politics. If you want to hear more, guess what! I’ve got a copy of Killing the Darlings, their latest album, to giveaway here!
Just leave a comment on this post — tell me what you’re listening to, what you’re up to this weekend, or what you think of this incredible sweater — for a chance to win! I’ll use one of those random number generators to pick a winner next week, so comment by…Wednesday? Yes, Wednesday, June 22.
And if you’re still thinking about the awesomeness of a three-person sweater, here’s one more video, featuring Jocelyn of Pearl and the Beard:
Happy weekend!

  1. oh my! i LOVE their sound. never heard them before, so thank you for introducing them to me!

lately, i’ve been listening to califone – specifically the album roots & crowns and the song “the orchids” which is a cover of a Psychic tv song that I can’t get enough of. Have a great weekend!

  2. I keep looking at this sweater and trying to imagine (a) where I would wear a 3-person sweater, and (b) which two people I would wear it with. This has given me plenty of entertainment while spending the whole afternoon on hold with insurance companies. Thanks for that!

  3. What a crazy fun sweater! I had never heard of Pearl and the Beard but I love them now!

I’m negotiating family politics this weekend–my parents are recently separated and it’s my Mom’s birthday on Father’s Day. Yipes.

  4. oooh, ooh, my like! i’ve been listening to the head and the heart, of course, along with a healthy dose of the david rawlings machine. i’m in portland, installing bike fenders and anticipating a farming date i made for tomorrow — obviously, with one remaining day before i start school for three years, i’m going farming.

  5. Haha! If the three person sweater didn’t get me, your description nailed it.

Currently I’ve got Louis Armstrong’s “Kiss to Build a Dream On” stuck in my head real bad, but I’ve been listening a few CD’s I’ve got in the car. No ipod jack, so I’m without my usuals.

This weekend so far I volunteered at Feed My Starving Children and went birdwatching, and tomorrow I might go on a bike ride? It remains to be seen.

  6. I’ve been listening to the Avett Brothers in preparation for their concert at Red Rocks in July. So. Excited. I also love the Head and the Heart, so I’m excited to give this band a listen.

  7. i cannot stop listening to sean hayes! he has been on non-stop! perfect for knitting and spinning and eating and a nice cold beer!

  8. I’ve been listening to a lot of Vandaveer lately – their melodic folkly sound is perfect for summer days! But these guys seem pretty cool – I mean, you’d have to put a three-way sweater on your album cover!

  9. So much awesomeness with their sound and that sweater!! Thanks for telling us about them. This weekend I’m sitting in my fabulous LYS for 8 hrs talking about my stuff. And hoping someone other than my mom and my friends show up. The next day I’m throwing a birthday party for my girl. Hope your weekend is fabulous, too!
